Uzbekistan’s boxing team head coach Tulkin Kilichev suffered a cardiac arrest after Khasanboy Dusmatov won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Dusmatov won the final fight in the weight category up to 51 kg against Frenchman Billal Bennam, the fight took place on August 8.
According to The Guardian, the incident happened in the warm-up area. First aid to Kilichev was given by British boxing team doctor Harj Singh and physiotherapist Robbie Lillis. The victim was then taken to hospital.
— The coaches of the Uzbekistan national team returned to the warm-up area, they were all celebrating, and then shouts were heard from there, which were not celebrations at all. They asked to call a doctor. Kharge was the first to respond, and I followed with the emergency bag we carry.
I arrived about 30 seconds after Kharge and he had already started performing CPR. This situation brought a lot of people together, so it took us a while to clear them all. I opened the bag, took out the defibrillator and attached the pads as quickly as possible. After analyzing his heart rate, the machine indicated that a shock was recommended, so we removed everyone and gave a shock.
At first he didn’t regain consciousness, but after about 20 to 30 seconds, as Kharge continued to give him artificial respiration, he suddenly regained consciousness, and it was great,” Lillis told the Guardian.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
