Manny Robles criticizes judges in fight with Vergil Ortiz
Manny Roblestrainer of the former WBC interim light middleweight champion Sergei Bogachuk (24-2, 23 KOs), criticized the judges after the Ukrainian’s fight with the WBO International belt holder Virgil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KO).
“I’m definitely disappointed. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’m just going to go ahead and say what I think. Hopefully I don’t get in trouble with the commissions, the judges, the WBC or the so-called ‘sanctioning bodies’. I’m tired of this crap being repeated over and over again, how unfairly they can treat fighters. Boxers put their lives and everything they have on the line to get to this point.”
“I don’t know where the hell these judges were looking. And nobody’s holding them accountable for it. They interview the fighters, the managers, the promoters, everybody except the judges. They just go home and nobody tells them anything, nobody asks them anything, nobody puts them in an awkward position. I believe this needs to stop. They need to be held accountable.”
In the first and eighth rounds, Bogachuk knocked his opponent down, but after all 12 rounds, the judges were on the American’s side. One of the referees counted a draw in his scorecards (113:113), the other two gave a minimal advantage to Ortiz (114:112, 114:112).
Thus, the American continued his unbeaten march in the professional ring, but for the first time he finished the fight without a technical knockout of his opponent.
Vergil Ortiz has taken over the WBC interim light middleweight title from Sergey Bogachuk.
