Alexey Tishchenko believes Umar Kremlev could become new IOC chief

Double Olympic champion Alexei Tishchenko said the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Oumar Kremlev could take up the post of head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ).

Head of the IOC Thomas Bach had previously announced that he would not seek re-election and proposed holding elections in March 2025. In October 2023, at the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai, members of the organization proposed amending the Olympic Charter to re-elect a German for a third presidential term.

— It would be more correct and democratically true if the representatives of the countries elected the president of the International Olympic Committee. It would be logical and more transparent. After all, this is one of the most important sports organizations in the world and it should be managed by representatives of the countries.

“If it were possible to appoint Umar Kremlev as IOC president, it would be great. The Kremlin would be able to implement the ideas and approaches that he has repeatedly spoken about. This would give more opportunities to athletes, the organization would become more transparent,” Tishchenko said, according to the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation.

Bach has led the IOC since 2013. He was first appointed to lead the organization for eight years, and in 2021 he was re-elected for a four-year term, which according to the current Olympic Charter should be his last.
