Athletistic/Boxing. The Taiwanese government has decided to recognize boxer Lin Yuting as the 2023 World Championships bronze medalist, despite her medal being revoked after a failed gender test, Focus Taiwan reports.

Cabinet spokesman Chen Shih-kai stressed that Yuting’s participation and victory in the 2024 Olympics confirmed that the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) decision to disqualify the athlete from the world championships was illegal.

Premier Zhuo Rongtai has asked the Ministry of Education to draw up a plan to award Lin the National Glory Medal and pay him NT$900,000 in prize money in recognition of his outstanding achievements on the international stage.

In addition, Lin Yuting will be appointed as an anti-bullying ambassador.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Yuting won the 57kg category.

In 2023, the IBA suspended Yuting and Algerian Iman Khelif from the World Championships after a series of DNA tests because they failed a gender test. However, the International Olympic Committee recognized that both athletes met the selection criteria and allowed them to compete in Paris.
