Chris believes that the Ukrainian is capable of surprising Mbilly
Former World Champion Chris Algieri commented on the upcoming fight between the French super middleweight boxer Christian Mbilly (27-0, 22 KO) and Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko (15-5, 10 KO).
“We have to see what happens in this fight. It should be noted that it is organized primarily for Mbilly.”
“Derevyanchenko is a fighter with a lot of experience, although the guy only has 20 fights and 15 wins. He has five losses and you kind of look at that record and think he doesn’t deserve attention, but the guy has fought everyone.”
“He fought Gennady Golovkin and many thought that Sergey won. He lost to Jacobs by a very close split decision. And last year he had the “Fight of the Year” with Jaime Munguia. So the guy has a lot of experience. He is a great fighter and is a big test for M’Billi.”
“The question is what is left of Derevyanchenko. Mbilly says he is not the same fighter, but I can tell you that if he is wrong, Christian will lose this fight. We will get answers to many questions on Saturday.”
Let us recall that the 10-round fight between Derevyanchenko and Mbilly will take place on Saturday, August 17, in Quebec (Canada). The event will be held at the Videotron Center arena. Earlier, in May, it became known that the Ukrainian and French sides had made a deal for this fight.
Mbilly, 29, is a Frenchman of Cameroonian descent. On the night of May 26, he defeated Britain’s Mark Heffron by technical knockout in the first round. This victory was Christian’s seventh defense of the WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title.
In April in New York, Derevyanchenko confidently won on points against American Vaughn Alexander. Earlier, Sergey lost to Mexican Jaime Munguia by decision. At the end of last year, Sergey said that he plans to compete in the professional arena for about two more years, and his main goal remains winning the title.
