Paul Malignaggi: If Derevyanchenko doesn’t run out of steam, we’ll see a good performance from him

Paul expects an interesting clash of styles

Former world champion and now analyst Paul Malignaggi commented on the upcoming fight between Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko (15-5, 10 KO) and Frenchman Christian Mbilly (27-0, 22 KO).

“This guy is aggressive in the ring. He brings a lot of energy and has a very good selection of punches.”

“If Derevyanchenko doesn’t run out of steam, we’ll see a good performance from him. The guy has only 20 professional fights, but he had an extensive amateur career. He fought at the highest level and has fought almost exclusively in every fight since turning pro.”

“We’re looking at a good clash of styles. Mbilly is one of the most interesting fighters in the super middleweight division. His fights will always be interesting.”

Let us recall that the 10-round fight between Derevyanchenko and Mbilly will take place on Saturday, August 17, in Quebec (Canada). The event will be held at the Videotron Center arena. Earlier, in May, it became known that the Ukrainian and French sides had made a deal for this fight.

Mbilly, 29, is a Frenchman of Cameroonian descent. On the night of May 26, he defeated Britain’s Mark Heffron by technical knockout in the first round. This victory was Christian’s seventh defense of the WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title.

In April in New York, Derevyanchenko confidently defeated American Vaughn Alexander on points. Earlier, Sergey lost to Mexican Jaime Munguia by decision.

At the end of last year, Sergey said that he plans to compete in the professional arena for about two more years, and his main goal remains winning the title.
