The coach believes that the aging Ukrainian still has prospects
Famous coach Teddy Atlas thinks that Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko (15-5, 10 KO) is capable of surprising the Frenchman Christiana Mbilli (27-0, 22 KOs).
“Derevyanchenko has had a lot of tough fights. I think he could have won a fight with Gennady Golovkin. I love Golovkin, but he could have won that fight.”
“The guy is 38, that’s the thing. The question is, what’s left of him? I don’t know. Is Derevyanchenko battered? Maybe. If so, how battered? Either way, he’ll test M’Billie, and he’ll test him better than Rohan Murdock did a few fights ago. Because Derevyanchenko is the better fighter.”
“Derevyanchenko is not a big puncher, but he never stops throwing punches. He is a punching machine, just like Mbilly. That’s why I say you have to watch this fight.”
Let us recall that the 10-round fight between Derevyanchenko and Mbilly will take place on Saturday, August 17, in Quebec (Canada). The event will be held at the Videotron Center arena. Earlier, in May, it became known that the Ukrainian and French sides had made a deal for this fight.
Mbilly, 29, is a Frenchman of Cameroonian descent. On the night of May 26, he defeated Britain’s Mark Heffron by technical knockout in the first round. This victory was Christian’s seventh defense of the WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title.
In April in New York, Derevyanchenko confidently defeated American Vaughn Alexander on points. Earlier, Sergey lost to Mexican Jaime Munguia by decision.
At the end of last year, Sergey said that he plans to compete in the professional arena for about two more years, and his main goal remains winning the title.
