The Briton believes that AJ’s chances in a potential fight with the Ukrainian are very slim
Former cruiserweight world champion and now sports analyst, Johnny Nelson believes that the British boxer Anthony Joshua has only a slim chance in a hypothetical third fight with the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight title holder Alexander Usik.
“The third version of AJ that we’ve seen in the last few fights, he comes into the ring with belief and confidence. Will he carry that belief and confidence into the Usyk fight, knowing that this guy has beaten him twice?”
“If this AJ comes into the ring, it might be a different story, but I don’t know. Joshua will beat Usyk 5 times out of 100. Usyk has him figured out. AJ still has a chance, he is capable of knocking him out, so he has the desire and hope to do it.”
Usyk defeated Joshua twice in 2021 and 2022. The Ukrainian first won by unanimous decision, taking the Briton’s championship belts. Then he successfully defended his titles, winning by split decision.
In his last fight on the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usyk and Fury have reached an agreement for a rematch. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on December 21. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek to introduce video replays in this fight.
