Bradley: No one understands how the loss to Mbilli will affect Derevyanchenko

Timothy believes that the Ukrainian should not have risked his health

Ex-world champion Timothy Bradley believes that the Ukrainian super middleweight boxer Sergey Derevyanchenko (15-6, 10 KO) may end career after losing fight against Frenchman Christiana Mbilly (28-0, 22 KOs).

“I saw the damage Derevyanchenko took, and no one understands how it will affect him. It all depends on what’s at stake, but this man is 38 years old. You’ve seen him in wars, right? Those kinds of blows affect you, they affect your life later. If he had stayed in the fight, I could understand it, but he didn’t. It was practically a rout, if not an annihilation.”

“That’s a problem for me. His future is going to be different now. He left a part of himself in the ring, and we talk about that all the time. A big part of himself, and he shouldn’t have. He didn’t get stopped. That’s great, but you know what? My corner would have stopped the fight. It was a valiant attempt, I know, but he won’t be the same after this. He might not even fight again.”

In the third round, Derevyanchenko injured his left hand, which forced him to box with his right hand for the rest of the fight. The Ukrainian continued the fight and lost by unanimous decision.

Derevyanchenko suffered his sixth defeat in the professional ring, while Mbilly still does not know the bitterness of defeat. For the Frenchman, this fight was the second in the last three months – in May, Christian defeated the British Mark Heffron by technical knockout in the first round.

In the fight with Sergey Derevyanchenko, Mbilly successfully defended his WBC Continental Americas title in the super middleweight division for the eighth time. The Ukrainian had previously said that he planned to fight in the professional arena for about two more years, and that his main goal remains winning the title.
