Russian fighter Mansur Malachiev, ranked number five in ONE Championship’s strawweight division, will meet number two ranked South African fighter Bokang Masunyane on October 4 in Bangkok at ONE Fight Night 25.
Malachiev, 32, a former Eagle FC champion in two weight classes, has fought three fights in ONE. He suffered the only loss of his career to current champion Joshua Pasio and won the other two fights. His professional record is 12 wins and one loss, with 80% of his victories coming by stoppage. Malachiev, representing the Universal Fighters team, is striving to win the ONE championship and to do so, he must get past Masunyane.
Masunyane, 30, is one of the most prominent representatives of South African martial arts. With an impressive 10-1 record, he has demonstrated the highest level of skill in the disciplines of wrestling and MMA. Masunyane has explosive power, excellent wrestling and dangerous two-handed strikes.
Masunyane won a bronze medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games and made his MMA debut in September 2015. In his first year, he won six matches and won two regional titles. An injury kept him out of Africa’s EFC promotion in 2018, but he later received an invitation from Japan’s Pancrase League, which led to him signing with ONE Championship.
The showdown between Malachiev and Masunyane promises to be one of the most intriguing events of the ONE Fight Night 25 tournament. The two fighters have similar styles, but the outcome of the fight is unpredictable. Malachiev will be looking to avenge his loss to Pasio and move closer to a title fight, while Masunyane will look to cement his status as one of the best fighters in the division and reach a new level.
The fight will take place at ONE strawweight (56.7 kg) under MMA rules.
