Russian Kuniev beats Brazilian Cunha in Candidates Tournament, set to land UFC contract

Russian fighter Rizvan Kouniev defeated Brazilian Hugo Cunha in the Dana White’s Contender Series.

Kuniev won by first-round technical knockout and is now expected to earn a UFC contract.

The Russian has 12 wins, two losses and one draw in mixed martial arts; another fight was declared invalid. Kuniev, 31, is a former Eagle FC heavyweight champion.

Dana White’s Contender Series is a show hosted by the head of the UFC. In 2017, White announced the creation of a league in which he would personally scout for talent to replenish the promotion’s roster with new fighters.
