Bogachuk: I think the fight with Fundora would have been even better than with Ortiz

The Ukrainian is also considering the option with Tim Tszyu

Ukrainian Sergei Bogachuk (24-2, 23 KO) spoke about his potential opponents in the near future.

“In my weight class, I think first of all with Fundora. With him, the fight would probably be even better. After all, I know him well. I know what he is capable of. So I would definitely be able to repeat it with him.”

“Who else? Maybe Tszyu. Definitely not Crawford. He’s more of a gamer. He would take on more, meet more, play more. So the main ones are Fundora and Tszyu. And, of course, the rematch with Ortiz.”

Let us recall that Sergey’s fight with Vergil Ortiz took place on the night of August 11 in Las Vegas. The fight was equal and as close as possible. During the confrontation, the Ukrainian knocked his opponent down twice, although Vergil himself does not think so.

However, the judges’ decision was in favor of the local boxer: one referee counted it as a draw in his notes (113:113), while the other two gave a minimal advantage to Ortiz (114:112, 114:112).

One way or another, this result means the following: Ortiz took the WBC interim champion title from Bogachuk and remained undefeated in the professional ring.

Robert Garcia, Ortiz’s trainer, believes that the Ukrainian “definitely deserves a rematch.” The likelihood of a repeat fight is not zero, especially if the American’s side fails to agree on a fight with former absolute champion in two weight categories Terence Crawford.

The Ukrainian’s promoter Tom Loeffler said that his protégé could have his next fight on the undercard of the second fight between the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and former WBC champion Tyson Fury.

In turn, former world champion and now analyst Paul Malignaggi called on the Chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, Turki Al ash-Sheikh, to arrange a rematch of the fight between Bogachuk and Ortiz.
