Usyk: I have no plans to lose the second fight to Fury

Ukrainian believes in God and hopes for the best

Ukrainian boxer, current WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight title holder Alexander Usyk (22-0, 14 KO) said he is not considering the option of losing a rematch with the former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).

“What will happen if I lose the second fight with Fury? I don’t think about it, I don’t have such a plan. As an Orthodox person, I imagine some things that are possible.”

“I only prepare myself for the hardest things, but I believe in the Lord God that He is leading me on the right path, and it doesn’t matter whether there will be victory or not.”

The fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Tyson Fury brought the organizers over 90 million dollars in revenue. All expenses for production, fighters’ fees, entertainment, travel, etc. cost about 120 million dollars.

On the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted Tyson’s first defeat in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Oleksandr is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles absolute champion in two weight categories.

Usyk subsequently issued a statement in which he announced that he would give the IBF belt to the winner of the British derby between his two former opponents in the ring – Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.. Thus, Alexander lost the status of absolute world champion in heavyweight, which he held for more than a month.

Usyk and Fury have reached an agreement for a rematch. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on December 21. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek to introduce video replays in this fight.
