Hearn: Haney could fight Paro in Australia in December

Both boxers remain undefeated in the professional ring.

Head of the promotional company Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn reported that a unification fight between the world champion according to the version WBC in the first welterweight Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KO) and the title holder IBF Liam Paro (25-0, 15 KOs).

“It’s a fight Liam would love. Devin has a good profile in Australia after the two fights with Kambosos. So it’s a possibility. I spoke to Paro last night and he said he’d be willing to fight if the deal was right. So I don’t think he’d have a problem with it.”

“The plan for Liam Paro is for him to fight on December 7 in Australia. That’s our goal. We’re in talks with a number of states to host the Paro fight. The fight could take place in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide.”

Haney had his last fight in late April in Brooklyn against Ryan Garcia. Devin was knocked down three times during the fight. According to the judges’ scorecards, Ryan triumphed with scores of 114:110 and 115:109. Another judge recorded a draw (112:112).

Garcia, despite the victory, did not take the championship belt from Haney, as he exceeded the agreed weight category limit. According to the head of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, the belt does not become vacant, but remains with Devin. Haney himself immediately hinted at a rematch after the defeat.

In late May, it became known that Garcia had failed a repeat doping test after his fight with Devin Haney. The second test, like the first, showed a positive result for ostarine, a drug used to improve endurance. Therefore, Haney remains undefeated in the professional ring, and the fight against Ryan Garcia was declared a no contest.

Paro won a unanimous decision over Subriel Matias in June to become the new IBF light welterweight champion. The Australian, like Haney, remains undefeated in his professional career.
