President of the Russian Judo Federation (RJF) Sergei Soloveichik said that the Russian Inal Tasoev I decided to attend the Paris Olympics in August to support my foreign colleagues.
In late June, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed four Russian judokas to participate in the Summer Olympics in Paris in neutral status. The list included Elis Startseva, Valery Endovitsky, Dali Liluashvili and Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov. In total, the Russian team had 12 quotas for participation in the Games: 7 for men and 5 for women. Soloveitchik then announced that Russian judokas would not participate in the 2024 Games. Tasoev came to Paris on his own initiative as a spectator.
— Inal Tasoev came to Paris. He really didn’t want to get on the podium, but to fight for a medal.
– He is still there today [на турнире Континентальной лиги дзюдо в Люберцах. — прим. «Матч ТВ»]. Inal said that he came to support his friends on the mat. Just as our foreign colleagues support us today, we also support them. There are no contradictions in our judo family. What is happening now is happening between politicians, they influence the federations. In judo, we have no questions, no contradictions, no political ambitions among ourselves. We only have the desire to live as one peaceful family and in this family to become the strongest and to be happy for each other.
Inal went to the Olympics to cheer for his colleagues. We appreciate and support that.
Yesterday we were in Ufa for the opening of the hall. It is a masterpiece! Life goes on, it is important that our athletes are at home and feel better at home than abroad. That is why I said earlier that I was sorry that Makhmadbekov was in a hurry [со сменой спортивного гражданства. — прим. «Матч ТВ»]”I am glad that there is such a warm atmosphere in the judo team: world and Russian. I think that our young people will bring glory to our country and will compete under the flag of Russia,” the correspondent reports, according to Soloveichik’s words.
