Athletistic / Boxing. The Algerian and Japanese boxing federations have withdrawn from the International Boxing Association (IBA). Now, both countries have joined the international federation World Boxing.
World Boxing was founded as an alternative to the IBA by national federations that left their membership. Today, the World Boxing leadership, in response to statements by representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about the possible exclusion of boxing from the program of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles (USA), is trying to obtain Olympic recognition in order to be the organizer of the Olympic boxing tournament.
Note that World Boxing now brings together 44 national associations, seven of which became members after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In 2023, Iman Khelif was disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) from the World Championships in New Delhi, India, due to a failed gender test. The IBA, having found an XY chromosome in its analysis, recognized Khelif as male. However, the IOC did not recognize the results of the IBA investigation and allowed Iman to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
