Serbian judoka disqualified for signing up for Paris 2024 Olympics

Serbian judoka, world and European champion Nemanja Majdov disqualified for crossing paths at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the athlete himself declared.

On Sunday, Maidov, 28, announced on social media that he had received a letter from the International Judo Federation (IJF) banning him for five months for making a religious gesture ahead of his fight against Greece’s Theodoros Tselides at the 2024 Games.

— 15 days ago, I received a decision from the World Judo Federation that I was suspended for 5 months. Precisely because I crossed myself when I entered the Olympic Games. I was banned from participating in all tournaments, camps and preparations. Of course, in the defensive letter regarding disciplinary measures, I did not want to apologize for crossing myself, although I did not even know what the punishment could be.

The Lord gave me everything for my career. And I am proud of it. This will not change in any way. It is a pity that a sport like judo gets carried away by such things,” Maidov wrote.
