Ukrainian World Champion Detained at Krakow Airport Along with His Friend
Alexander Krasyukpromoter of the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight world champion Alexandra Usika, revealed details of the detention of the Ukrainian boxer at the Krakow airport.
“How the Poles celebrated the anniversary of Usyk’s victory over Glowacki. Alexander and his friend (also Alexander) were flying on RyanAir flight FR2777 from Krakow to Thessaloniki, having traveled more than 11 hours from Kyiv to Krakow by car and were a little tired. Usyk had a “priority” line for boarding, and his friend had a general line. While waiting to board, Alexander’s friend fell asleep on the seats in the waiting area. After the boarding was announced, Usyk woke up his friend and said that he would wait for him at the exit. After going through the passport and boarding pass check, Usyk stayed to wait for his friend. That’s how it all started.”
“The airline employees somehow strangely determined the condition of the other Alexander as deep alcohol intoxication and did not allow him to board the flight. Usik began to clarify the reasons for not allowing him to board with the RyanAir employees, but they refused to give an explanation, calling the police. After the officers appeared, the airline employees pointed to the second Alexander and explained their conclusions about not allowing him to board the flight. The police asked him to go with them to establish the fact and complete the paperwork.”
“Usyk firmly stated that he would not abandon his friend, would not fly away without him, and was not going to leave the landing zone until representatives of Ukrainian diplomacy arrived. To which the police threatened to detain him and handcuff him. Then Usyk held out his hands… And the policeman put handcuffs on his wrists. And only on him, because, as can be seen in the video filmed by one of the passengers, the other Alexander is walking without handcuffs and holding a travel bag in his hand.”
“At the local police station, the second Alexander was asked to take a “dragger”, which showed an alcohol content equivalent to one bottle of beer. After that, an unpleasant conversation took place between the police and the airline employees, but it was too late.”
“Meanwhile, the Consul General of Ukraine was already on site, and an explanation had to be given to Polish law enforcement officers. It is difficult to say whether the lunar eclipse clouded the consciousness of the airline and police employees, or the desire to get to know the outstanding champion better.”
“However, it is certain that the Poles celebrated the anniversary of Usyk’s victory over Glowacki in Gdansk, Poland, in 2016 in a peculiar way. So, thank God, the incident is over. We will wait for official apologies and compensation from RyanAir and Polish law enforcement.”
Earlier it was reported that Usyk arrived by car from Kyiv to Krakow airport together with his friend. It was the boxer’s friend that the Polish services did not want to let on board the plane for unspecified reasons and subsequently detained. Usyk stated that he was against these measures and refused to fly himself, for which he was eventually detained as well.
Subsequently, Polish law enforcement officers released Usyk, and Oleksandr himself thanked them for their vigilance. Ukrainian diplomats intervened in the incident, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also commented on the boxer’s detention.
Usyk is preparing for a repeat fight against former world champion Tyson Fury. Earlier it became known that Alexander’s training camp ahead of the fight with the “Gypsy King” will be located in Valencia.
The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
