“Charles is really good, he’s got a good win streak, he’s beaten a lot of tough guys, but to me it’s embarrassing when the UFC lightweight champion asks someone like Nate Diaz or Conor McGregor, who won his last fight five years ago. Nobody remembers when these guys won a few fights. He tried asking for Diaz, McGregor, but he forgot my name. And when they talked about me, he said he needs more money or something. But when he has fights with Dustin (Poirier) or Justin Gaethje, he doesn’t talk about money. Now, when he says he has to fight Islam, he tries to say “I want to fight in Brazil, I want to fight at the end of the year, or I need some money“, he stated.
Makhachev followed his attack on Charles of the Bronx; “He lost seven times in the UFC. It won’t be a surprise if he loses one more time. The fighters have already defeated him seven times in the UFC and this guy is the champion of my division. I’m very upset about this. It’s embarrassing because he said Islam has to fight one more time or something, but the UFC told him “If you don’t get this fight, let’s give Michael Chandler a chance.” That’s why he took this fight“.
“Everyone who speaks Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje or these guys… All these guys are old, they have money, they’re not a challenge. We are the new blood. Me, (Mateusz) Gamrot, Beneil Dariush, these are really tough guys for him, because Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje, they were never grapplers, just strikers. So it was an easy fight for him. But he knows that Islam Makhachev is a very tough fight for him“, he added.
