MMA fighter Vasilevsky congratulated Khabib Nurmagomedov on his birthday and spoke about joint training with him

MMA fighter and combat sambo world champion Vyacheslav Vasilievsky congratulated former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov on his birthday and told about his first joint training camp with him.

Nurmagomedov and Vasilevsky trained together in the winter of 2012 at Murat Keshtov’s gym in New Jersey. Subsequently, Khabib Nurmagomedov won 13 out of 13 fights in the UFC, became the lightweight champion and retired in 2020. On Friday, the athlete turned 36.

— Today is your former roommate Khabib Nurmagomedov’s birthday. When you lived together at the training camp in the USA, you never arrived on this date, did you notice if he was partying or not?

— Khabib, happy birthday to you. No, we were in training camp in the winter. After New Year in January, I arrived.

By the way, Khabib competed for us in combat sambo, in my opinion, for the Nizhny Novgorod region. And Islam Makhachev also participated in the Russian Championship.

– How did this happen?

— As I understand it, the conditions were simply better at that time. That is, if you became a world champion for the Nizhny Novgorod region, you received a salary from the city, the region, from different federations, but in Dagestan this was not the case at that time, as I suppose. In principle, this practice still exists today.

Islam Makhachev and I trained a lot at the training camp when we were preparing for the World or European Championships that were held in the Moscow region.

— What funny things do you remember from when you lived in the United States in 2012?

— There were actually a lot of interesting things there in America. It was our first trip, and besides, we were still green at that time. In general, we had some problems there with our manager Sam Carden, because he promised to bring us to America, to register us in various organizations, said that we would have a nutritionist there, that the diet would be developed according to our blood type, that is, everything would be clear.

And when we arrived, he showed us a pizzeria where to have dinner, I went there several times to eat, and then he told me in the evening: “Slava, you eat too much.” I said: “Why? I train two or three times a day.” And he said that we should spend $10 there. And $10 includes a salad and tea or pizza. He said: “Well, we should try.” In general, we lived there quite modestly in terms of expenses,” Vasilevsky told .
