Joshua: Becoming champion for the third time will not be easy, but I believe I can achieve it

On the night of September 21-22, Anthony Joshua suffered a defeat from Daniel Dubois

Former World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KO) addressed his fans after defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO).

“I failed, but we have to look at all the positives. That’s the mindset and the perspective we need. Always a positive mindset. Look at what we’ve accomplished over 11 years. It’s phenomenal.”

“I want to thank each and every one of you for rooting for me. What a rollercoaster ride! But you know what the problem is? We’re not done yet. We’ve been champions once, we’ve done it twice. Doing it a third time won’t be easy, but I believe I can do it. The key is to take the right steps, work hard, and get better. And most importantly, it has to come from the heart.”

“I can’t listen to outside voices or influencers. I have to listen to my heart. It’s only been a day but when I sit and think, I know I have a big heart. I wanted to thank you for your support, for riding this rollercoaster with me. Buckle up because I know we have so much more to show and so much more to give to this game. Let’s move on. British boxing, I appreciate you, we’ve grown together. Let’s go.”

Dubois defeated Joshua in a fight that took place in London on Saturday, September 21. Daniel knocked AJ down three times and knocked his opponent out in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished it.

The fight itself at Wembley between Joshua and Dubois was attended by 98,128 people – a new 21st century record for the number of spectators at a boxing match.

34-year-old Joshua suffered his fourth defeat in his career. Recall that in 2019 he lost to Andy Ruiz, and in 2021 and 2022 to Alexander Usyk.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn stated that in 2025 Anthony could fight former WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
