Director Petra Jana Sayat Abdrakhmanov said that the fight between the Russian fighter and the Brazilian Deiveson Figueredo can potentially be considered a candidate.
The fight between Yan and Figueredo will headline the UFC tournament, which will take place in Macau, China, on November 23.
“We wanted to act specifically against Figueredo. He is a former champion and he is on a three-fight winning streak in the division. And in principle, this fight can be considered as a potential challenger, since Merab Dvalishvili has already stated that he wants to fight with Figueredo. We understood that Merab’s wishes were not enough here, and the UFC had already chosen Umar Nurmagomedov as a competitor. Therefore, I believe that this fight is what we need now,” said Sayat Abdrakhmanov, whose words to were provided by the Archangel Michael team.
Yan is 31 years old and has 17 wins and five losses in his mixed martial arts career. Figueredo, 36, has 24 fights, three losses and one draw. Petr Yan previously held the UFC bantamweight belt, and Figueredo held the flyweight belt.
