On Monday, the WBA officially cleared American Gervonta Davis to defend his lightweight belt against fellow super featherweight titleholder Lamont Roach. Previously, the WBA issued a resolution according to which Roach was obliged to defend his title in a fight against Russian interim champion Albert Batyrgaziev, but the teams failed to reach an agreement. Samedov defeated Armenian Zhora Amazaryan in a qualifying match in early September.
