Malignaggi: Joshua needs to sort himself out. He can’t lie to himself

September 21 Anthony Joshua lost by knockout to Daniel Dubois

Former world champion and now analyst Paul Malignaggi believes that the former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) needs to sort himself out after being knocked out by the IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs).

“We saw how Joshua wanted to reignite the fire inside, but he couldn’t handle it. Therefore, he must deal with himself. He can’t lie to himself. I understand that this is all difficult.”

“He has to ask himself, ‘Will I be able to maintain this intensity when I get into this situation again?’ Now Joshua’s mindset has changed and he is in self-preservation mode.”

“He will never again have the recklessness and dedication that fighters have in their youth. He really can’t go against this energy anymore. Dubois has it all now. I really doubt AJ can handle it.”

“This is more than just a desire. It’s a mentality that comes with age.”

Let us remind you that Dubois defeated Joshua in a fight that took place in London on Saturday, September 21. Daniel knocked down AJ three times and knocked out his opponent in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Oleksandr Usyk abandoned it.

The Joshua-Dubois fight set a new record for the largest number of spectators in the 21st century for a boxing match. The boxing evening at Wembley Stadium in London was attended by 98,128 people.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn said that the fight contract included a rematch option. However, Bob Arum denied this statement, calling it “fiction.” Dubois coach Don Charles believes his player should prepare thoroughly for any upcoming opponent.
