President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili after being re-elected vice president of the United World of Wrestling (UWW), he said the sporting community remained united despite political pressure.
Mamiashvili and the first vice-president of the FSBR Natalya Yarygina retained their positions as vice-presidents of the UWW. The decision was taken on October 28 in Tirana, where the first meeting of the newly elected UWW bureau was held.
“It was very important for us that Natalya Alekseevna Yarygina was re-elected yesterday at the UWW congress as a member of the UWW office and that the representatives of the Russian Federation retained their positions as vice-presidents. This suggests that the sports community, no matter what happens, remains one big united family, and the fact that Natalya Alekseevna and I were supported by both the Congress and the office bearers suggests that the work we do every day, remains at the forefront, despite political pressure,” Mamiashvili said on the FSBR website.
“Maybe I speak with confidence, but at such a time it was, first of all, very important for the country and for the Russian Wrestling Federation that we maintain our position in the United World of Wrestling. During all this time, our relationships with any of our international colleagues have not changed, our work contacts have not disappeared, but all our colleagues represent their countries and there is no way to escape the pressure policy. Nevertheless, they maintained their attitude towards Russia and their respect for the results that our wrestlers show on the mat,” Yarygina said.
Russia remains the only country represented on the UWW board of directors with two delegates.
