Double Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Abdulrashid Sadulayev said he dedicated his victory at the World Championships in non-Olympic weight categories in Tirana to doctor Dmitry Dzukaev, who got him back on his feet after a serious injury.
On Thursday, Sadulayev defeated Georgian Mirian Maisuradze in the final and became a six-time world champion. The Russians participated in the tournament in neutral status.
“I want to dedicate my victory to one person, a good doctor, who put me back on my feet after last year’s World Championships in Serbia. I had a serious injury and after the fight the next day I flew to Moscow. Immediately a day later, I was already lying on the operating table, he told me that it would take two days to prepare for such an operation. I didn’t realize then how difficult and dangerous the operation was. I would like to warmly thank Dmitri Mikhailovich Dzukaev, I wish him health and long life,” said Sadulayev, whose comment was published by the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation.
Sadulaev, 28, is a two-time Olympic champion and four-time European champion.
