The promoter is confident that in a potential second fight, Daniel will also confidently defeat A.J.
Promoter Frank Warren said that his ward, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO), the next fight will not be against the former world champion Anthony Joshuabut considers other opponents.
“We waited to give AJ his chance because he said he wanted a rematch. But it didn’t happen, it didn’t work, that’s why we are where we are.”
“I don’t see it being any different next time, to be honest. I think Anthony got his number. I was very confident when we agreed on the fight that this was the perfect fight for Daniel, and that’s how it turned out. He will feel even better the second time around after such a one-sided fight.”
“I don’t know what options Joshua has. “Eventually they will work it out between themselves, AJ and his team, but the goal of any heavyweight is to fight for a world title… He has to build trust again.”
Dubois has a window in February for a stopover fight. Next, the Briton will have a mandatory defense, or a chance to fight with the winner of the rematch between Alexander Usik and Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world champion. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) allowed Dubois to rematch Joshua until April 22, indicating that Daniel had the opportunity to fight for the undisputed title instead of a mandatory defense.
Frank Warren stated that Dubois will fight next in early 2025. Fabio Wardley is called Daniel’s potential opponent. IBF President Daryl Peoples confirmed that Dubois has the opportunity to fight Wardley directly before April 22.
Let us remember that on September 21 in London, Dubois defeated Joshua. Daniel knocked down AJ three times and knocked out his opponent in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Oleksandr Usyk abandoned it.
