The manager believes that Alexander is capable of defeating Daniel for the second time and again becoming the absolute heavyweight champion
Manager of the WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight world champion Alexandra Usika (22-0, 14 KOs) Egis Klimas suggested who his ward would be better off fighting after a rematch with the former WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
“Are we interested in a second fight with Dubois if Usyk defeats Fury? Yes, definitely. I don’t think there’s anyone left in the heavyweight division. And right now Daniel Dubois is the IBF title holder. A lot of people talk about the first fight, a lot of people say it wasn’t a low blow, although it was 100% a low blow.”
“The referee gave Usyk time and he used it. I believe every smart fighter will do the same. Many people still have certain questions, and after Fury, a fight with Daniel would be ideal for Alexander. Then Usyk will be able to prove exactly how capable he is of defeating him and becoming the absolute heavyweight champion for the second time.”
On August 26 last year in Wroclaw, Usik fought with Briton Daniel Dubois. In the fifth round, Usyk found himself on the floor after Dubois hit the Ukrainian below the belt. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued. Dubois said the hit was clean and he was deprived of a legitimate victory. At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.
In his last fight, which took place in London on September 21, Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua by knocking out his opponent in the fifth round.
On the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Oleksandr Usyk will prepare for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia. The Ukrainian said that he attracts scientists, psychologists to the training camp, and is constantly looking for suitable sparring partners. Tyson Fury said he will begin training six to seven weeks before the fight.
The first press conference and duel of the boxers’ views took place in London. Usik appeared in public to the song “Ave Maria” in the extravagant image of the hero of the computer game series Hitman. Fury came out to the song “Barbie Girl.” The event was hosted by legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer.
