The name of the Ukrainian’s next opponent remains unknown for now.
Former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk said that he could hold his next fight in January on the undercard of the fight between David Morrell And David Benavidez.
“I try to train constantly, that is, I don’t stop training at all. After the fight, I rested for almost a month, then they promised me a fight in September. I spent two months in a full-fledged camp, prepared, but the fight fell through.”
“Well, that is, I don’t accelerate, but I constantly keep myself in shape. I’m in such a state that I can start whenever I want and, by the way, today there was information that we are now counting on a fight on January 25 or 26 and this will be the undercard of the Morrel – Benavidez fight. The opponent is not yet known.”
“Now I want to box with the strongest, with titled names, if Beterbiev is fine. It would be a dreamfight, as they say, all the belts are on the line. But, if not him, then: Bivol, Benavidez, Morrel is suitable.”
“There was talk that I could box with David Morrell, he is now the WBA Regular Champion, well, the WBA has 5 champions there, and he is ordinary, let’s put it that way. They tried to negotiate with him, but it didn’t work out because they chose to take the path of unifying the belts with Benavidez.”
“I would love to meet the winner of this fight. That is, either a rematch with Benavidez or a fight with Morrel. Let’s see, in general I’m open to any fights.”
Gvozdyk suffered the second defeat of his career in June, losing to David Benavidez in a fight for the vacant WBC interim title. In the fight, which took place in Las Vegas at the Grand Garden Arena, the American won by unanimous decision.
Earlier, in 2020, the Ukrainian ended his career, but then decided to return to professional boxing. From 2016 to 2019, he held the WBC light heavyweight title. In 2012, Alexander became the bronze medalist of the Olympics.
