Director of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev asked the president of the International Olympic Committee (CIO ) Thomas Bach kneel down and apologize to the boxing community for allowing the Algerian woman Iman Khelif who exhibits male sexual characteristics, for the 2024 Olympic women’s boxing tournament.
Earlier, The Correspondent published a medical report according to which the athlete had neither uterus nor ovaries, as well as the presence of testicles in the inguinal canal and a micropenis resembling an enlarged clitoris. Another test confirmed that Khelif carries a normal male karyotype of 46,XY. Following a hormonal study, the Algerian woman revealed a “typically male testosterone level” of 14.7 nmol/l, several times higher than the maximum testosterone level in women.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. As a result of the gender test, it was proven that the athlete has XY chromosomes.
“The IOC violated all sporting rules and put a man in competition with a woman. The analyzes confirmed it. As President of the IBA, which respects gender equality and protects women’s and men’s boxing, I demand that Thomas Bach and his team take their knees and apologize to the boxing community. Thomas Bach himself is directly responsible for this, as he pushed for men to be able to compete with women.
Maybe he also changed gender, I don’t know. Maybe he did everything for this, destroying the Olympic family. On behalf of all boxers around the world, I demand that they take their knees and apologize to the boxing community, to those girls who were beaten and bullied. Thomas Bach, I await your official apology. If you don’t do it, we will force you to do it,” Kremlev said in a video posted on Telegram channel .
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Khelif won a gold medal in the 66 kg category.
