Head coach of the Russian freestyle wrestling team Khadjimurat Gatsalov reported that Russian wrestlers will prepare for a match against the Iranian team at home and also summarized the results of the World Championship in Tirana.
The match between wrestlers of the Russian and Iranian national teams will take place from November 22 to 23 in Moscow. At the World Championships in non-Olympic weight categories that ended at the end of October in Albania, Russians won five medals, including one gold.
— I am satisfied with the results of the World Championship. I want to thank the fans, friends, fans for the experience, for every message – we felt supported, it gave the guys extra strength. We have a full set of medals: gold, silver, bronze, Zaur Uguev was one step away from a medal. Nevertheless, the weight category up to 61 kg is not Zaur’s weight, so he will continue to fight in the weight category where he is the leader – up to 57 kg. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough power and tournament experience at this weight to get a feel for this category. Yes, he is a national champion, but to go the extra mile and win a medal, he needed several starts in this weight abroad.
— There is an upcoming match in Moscow with the Iranian team as part of PWL-7. How will the team prepare?
“The lineup has been determined, the lineup has been announced, but the guys will prepare for the home match, and the next training camp of the national team will take place next year, after the tournament in Yarygin,” said the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) quoting Gatsalov’s words.
