The Independent Council for Women’s Sports (ICONS) demanded that the Algerian Iman Khelif gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris, reports Bild.
Khelif won gold in the women’s boxing competition at the 2024 Paris Games. In the fall, Le Correspondent published a medical report according to which the athlete had been diagnosed with the absence of a uterus and ovaries, as well as the presence of testicles in the inguinal canal and a “micropenis”. Meanwhile, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Khelif from the 2023 world championship due to failing a gender test. Following a gender test, it was proven that she has XY chromosomes.
“We agree that the medal and all awards should be selected and given to the athlete who achieved the best result.
Sanctions and penalties must be introduced to hold accountable the leaders of the IOC and the Algerian team as well as all those who put women at risk, said council co-founder Kim Jones.
A similar situation is associated with Taiwanese athlete Lin Yuting, who won the Olympic gold medal in boxing in the weight category up to 57 kg. She had also failed the IBA gender test, but was admitted by the IOC to the French Olympics, where she beat all her competitors.
