The specialist believes that in the first fight the Ukrainian won more confidently than the judges thought
James Ali Bashirformer coach of the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight belt holder Alexandra Usika (22-0, 14 KOs), shared his thoughts on the upcoming rematch of the Ukrainian with the British heavyweight, former WBC title holder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
“Fury will try to impose his weight, size, reach on Oleksandr Usyk. But Alexander Usik will be the same Usik as usual: evasive, fast, sharp, on entry and exit. The mustache will be itself. The mustache won’t change anything, it will just be a better version than the first time. Tyson has had time to reevaluate, rethink what he did in the first fight, and Usyk will also look at the various flaws that he showed in the first fight, and he will correct them as well. Fury can go as heavy as he wants, but it won’t make a difference for Oleksandr Usyk.”
“The first fight between Usik and Fury was considered closer than I did. They say he won by a thin one. I don’t think so. I don’t think he won by a thin one. I think Usyk beat him without question and they saved Fury from getting knocked out. In my opinion, the referee saved Fury from getting knocked out in that fight because Usyk put him right in the spot that counts as a knockout and Fury was packed, sealed and ready to fly away. But the referee intervened and gave him some time. Usyk knows that commercially they are doing some things to get Fury out, there is a ton of money involved, but I believe Oleksandr Usyk will pull out the win. He’s an enigma, he’ll find a way to win the fight.”
“How will Usyk win? He will do it a little differently. He will be better than in the first fight. This will make a difference. The guy has a lot of pride and a deep soul. I think Usyk will win this fight.”
Let us remember that on the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Oleksandr Usyk will prepare for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia. The Ukrainian said that he attracts scientists, psychologists to the training camp, and is constantly looking for suitable sparring partners. Tyson Fury said he will begin training six to seven weeks before the fight.
The first press conference and duel of the boxers’ views took place in London. Usik appeared in public to the song “Ave Maria” in the extravagant image of the hero of the computer game series Hitman. Fury came out to the song “Barbie Girl.” The event was hosted by legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer.
