Russian heavyweight Anatoly Malykhin told about his preparation for the One Championship league title fight against Umar Kane.
The League One heavyweight title fight between Malykhin and Kane will take place in Bangkok on November 9. Currently, the Russian heavyweight is undefeated in 14 professional fights under MMA rules. Muhumat Vakhaev is a former ASA League heavyweight champion.
— You have a very impressive opponent, Oumar Kane from Senegal. Who did you train with to prepare for the fight against him?
— Mukhumat Vakhaev came for some good fights and wrestling training. He was in Thailand and helped me a lot. I think Oumar Kane and Rainier de Ridder are not at all close to him in terms of physique and punching power. Once we had a boxing fight with Mukhumat, he hit me somewhere in the side, I thought my pelvis was out. It’s good that it was already the end of the round, I went to the corner and checked if everything was in place at the thighs. And he helped me in the struggle. He now weighs 145 kilos, he’s a very powerful guy, he doesn’t give up, he always moves forward, he’s so fiery. Then the guys from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan helped, there were a lot of people. Plus, working with Johnny was awesome.
— We know that sparring is a resource-intensive training, especially for heavyweights. Approximately how long do you spend them before a fight? Can you count the number of turns?
— Now, I don’t do much sparring in MMA anymore. At first, I trained in the 5-5 format. Now I was mainly doing boxing work: eight rounds of three minutes each. In wrestling – 30 minutes of training and two sparring partners, who change every three minutes. And I stay in the cage for 30 minutes without rest. I’ve moved away from MMA sparring a bit now, because I think as you age you take on more damage. In principle, I breathe well, my workouts suit me. There is also an exercise called jumpbar. You jump for a minute… conditionally over a goat (so that readers understand), you hit the paws with powerful blows for a minute, you rest for a minute. And so on for five rounds. We also ran a lot in the mountains and did some shaking,” Malykhin told .
The ONE 169 tournament in Bangkok will be broadcast live on November 9 on and Match! Fighter,” begins at 04:00 Moscow time.
