The date of the fight was postponed from January 25 due to the work of Benavidez Sr., whose ward Pacheco is scheduled to face McCumbie in the ring
The final date for the fight between the interim WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez (29-0) and WBA Regular champion David Morrell (11-0) looks set to become Feb. 1, 2025. The meeting location will be the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Previously, it was assumed that Benavidez would enter the ring on December 14, but subsequently an agreement was reached on his fight with Morrell (the American offered the Cuban a fight back in September), and the tentative date for the fight became January 25. This is what Ukrainian ex-world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk recently called, planning to fight on the undercard of the above-mentioned fight.
But this date also had to be “pushed forward” by a week. The fact is that a middleweight fight is planned for January 25 in Las Vegas between Diego Pacheco, trained by Jose Benavidez Sr. (David’s father), and Trevor McCumbee.
Benavidez defeated Gvozdyk in his last fight in June. Morrel defeated Radivoje Kalajdzic by unanimous decision in August.
