Russian fighter Valery Myasnikov told he wouldn’t be at all surprised if the American Stipe Miocic will defeat his compatriot Jon Jones in a UFC title fight.
UFC heavyweight champion Jones, 37, and former UFC champion Miocic, 42, will fight on November 16 at UFC 309 in New York. The last time Miocic entered the Octagon was in March 2021, Jones in March 2023, when he beat Frenchman Cyril Gan ahead of schedule and won the belt. Jones previously fought in February 2020.
“I never saw anyone favoring Miocic in this fight. It’s as if everything has already been decided. There’s probably a reason for this, but I don’t want to repeat myself, so I guess Stipe can get the win. Yes, Jones broke out very powerfully at heavyweight, facing Cyril Gan. Will John be able to twist Miocic in the same way? Daniel Cormier did not succeed twice in a row. Why should Jones, who was featured in every story except sports news last year, succeed? Stipe is a natural heavyweight with good balance and a high fight IQ. Yes, this is far from the peak version of Miocic, but I don’t think it’s worth writing him off or calling him a specific underdog. I can completely imagine how Miocic will become the new UFC heavyweight champion,” Myasnikov told .
Myasnikov will fight with Belarusian Vladislav Kovalev at the Ural FC 9 tournament on November 22 in Nizhny Novgorod.
The UFC 309 tournament can be watched live on the channel, broadcasting begins on November 17 at 06:00 (Moscow time).
