Martin is looking for a new opponent
WBO International champion belt holder Martin Bakole (21-1, 16 KOs) disappointed with the failure of the fight with the German heavyweight boxer Agit Kabayel (25-0, 17 KOs).
Bakole addressed the Chairman of the Saudi Arabian General Entertainment Authority Turks Al ash-Sheikh with a request to organize a fight against the former interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhang Zhilei (27-2-1, 22 KO).
“I am very disappointed that Kabayel pulled out of the fight. I’m looking forward to whoever is next. I think I’ll fight Zhang.”
“I ask His Honor Turki Al ash-Sheikh to organize a fight with Zhang. I would be very happy to fight a big man from China.”
Let us remind you that the fight between Bakole and Kabayel previously received the status of an eliminator. The winner would earn the right to fight for the IBF heavyweight championship, held by Briton Daniel Dubois.
On the night of August 4 in Los Angeles, Bakole won an early victory over Jared Anderson, inflicting the American his first defeat in his professional career. Thanks to this success, Martin rose to the top 10 rankings in the heavyweight category according to the authoritative magazine The Ring.
In early June, Zhilei defeated former world champion Deontay Wilder. Before that, in March, the Chinese lost to Joseph Parker. It was reported that both boxers agreed in advance about a potential rematch, and are ready to fulfill the terms of the contract.
