The fight between Gervonta and Roach will receive a new date – March 1

The event will be planned in Brooklyn

A fight between the WBA lightweight belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 29 KOs) and WBA world super featherweight champion Lamont Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) will again receive a new date.

Initially, the fight was supposed to take place on December 21 in Washington. In this case, the fight would take place simultaneously with a big event with the participation of Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).

The fight was then rescheduled for January 25 in Las Vegas. Another fight is planned for this day – interim WBC light heavyweight world champion David Benavidez (29-0) with WBA Regular champion David Morrell (11-0).

However, now the new date of the fight is called March 1st. Now the event can take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

If Roach beats Davis, he will be given five days to send his decision to the WBA on which of the two titles he will retain and defend. If Lamont loses, he will have to fight an official contender at super featherweight within 120 days of the Davis fight.

Lamont Roach successfully defended his title in June against Irishman Fergal McCrory, winning by technical knockout in the 8th round. The American has a long history of fighting in the WBA, which also influenced the association’s decision to accommodate the champion in a potential category change.

On the night of June 16, Gervonta defended his WBA championship by knocking out compatriot Frank Martin. The 29-year-old boxer remains undefeated, and he won 29 of his thirty victories ahead of schedule.

Representatives of Gervonta Davis previously negotiated a fight with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs), who stated that he was ready to fight “Tank” at any time.

Also, the “Tank” team has been negotiating for a long time about a fight with IBF and IBO lightweight world champion Vasily Lomachenko. The event was planned to be held in November 2024 in American Las Vegas at the MGM Grand or T-Mobile Arena, but the Ukrainian decided to take a break from his career.
