Former UFC champion Conor McGregor convicted of rape

Dublin High Court jury convicts former UFC champion Conor McGregor guilty in rape case, reports Reuters.

The complaint was filed by a woman named Nikita Ní Laimhín, who was seeking damages for assault, accusing McGregor of rape at the Beacon Hotel in Dublin on December 9, 2018. The trial, postponed several times, opened on November 5.

McGregor said he had “completely consensual sex” with the woman and rejected claims by the plaintiff’s lawyer that he held her down and left bruises on her body.

The jury at the High Court in Dublin deliberated for six hours before returning their verdict. McGregor must now pay the victim more than 248,000 euros in damages.

McGregor’s last UFC fight took place in July 2021, when he lost early to American Dustin Poirier. The Irish fighter has 22 wins and 6 losses in mixed martial arts; he previously held UFC championship belts in two weight classes.
