“I can’t be quiet.” MMA fighter Monson explained why he decided to make a film about Donbass “Eight years before”

American mixed martial artist Jeff Monson , who received Russian citizenship in 2018, told the show “There is a theme!” on “” about his film “Eight years before”, which will be devoted to events in the Donbass. According to the 51-year-old athlete, he wants to show the real life story of “ordinary people who have suffered for eight years”.

– Why did you decide to make the film “Eight Years Before”?

— I was in the Donbass and in Luhansk in 2014, then many, many times. I have witnessed terrible things and seen them with my own eyes. I saw everything that was happening. I’ve been to the children’s center, I’ve been to schools, I’ve visited people, I’ve seen the destruction that’s happening. How people suffer. I wanted to tell the world about it. In the United States, no one really knows what is going on. They see Russia as the aggressor, not the savior it really is. I want to tell the truth so that they see the situation that is really there. The people of Donbass have been suffering for eight years now, and no one knows. It is a crime! It’s terrible that no one really knows what’s going on with these ordinary people. It’s a film about people surviving in terrible situations.

— Do you have a kind of hatred in the United States?

– I receive a lot of letters where they threaten me, they write that they hate me. There are a lot of them on social media. I try to be patient so I don’t get mad or upset or think about it.

Every time I go to Donbass, I feel a lot of empathy and I am overwhelmed with sadness for these people. That’s why I can’t be silent. I get a lot of hate mail.

Why do no foreign journalists come to the Donbass? How powerful is propaganda in the West?

Because the media works for the government. And the United States needs it. Propaganda that Russia is the aggressor? Not really. Russia helps and tries to save people! When will all of this end? The United States does not need this to stop.

Monson has 60 wins, 1 draw and 26 losses in mixed martial arts. Monzon is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and former UFC heavyweight champion.
