Former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko was considering his return to the ring
Legendary Ukrainian boxer, former world heavyweight champion Vladimir Klitschko stopped negotiations on the possibility of a fight with the IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
The date for a potential fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Daniel Dubois was called February 22, 2025, and the venue was Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Negotiations were stopped after the fight of 58-year-old Mike Tyson against YouTube blogger and boxer Jake Paul, in which the boxing legend was defeated after not the best performance on his part.
Amid Mike Tyson’s defeat, the Saudi-British promoters of the first big fight night of 2025 in Riyadh doubted the ability of the 48-year-old Klitschko to put on a decent fight against the 27-year-old Dubois.
Let us remind you that Daniel Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua on September 21 in London. Daniel defended the IBF champion title, which he received after Alexander Usyk abandoned him. This fight set a new record for the largest number of spectators in the 21st century for a boxing match – the boxing evening at Wembley Stadium in London was attended by 98,128 people.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn previously stated that the fight contract included a rematch option. However, Bob Arum denied this statement, calling it “fiction.” Subsequently, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, said that a rematch between Dubois and Joshua could take place on February 22 in Riyadh as part of the previously announced 5-on-5 event between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing.
Wladimir Klitschko retired from his professional career after losing to Anthony Joshua in 2017. In total, the Ukrainian fought 69 fights in the professional ring, winning 64 of them.
