According to Derek, Iron Mike has become a part of a great show, and now his business will take off
Veteran of the super heavyweight category Derek Chisora commented on the return to the ring of the legendary Mike Tyson and his defeat by a YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul.
“Of course, I’m happy for Mike Tyson. This is called entertainment. Mike Tyson was the world champion, but where was Jake Paul then? Jake Paul was in his father’s scrotum. After many years, the era of Mike Tyson is over, no one knows Mike Tyson. The only people who know Mike Tyson are people who are interested in boxing. But now my kids know Mike Tyson. They didn’t know him, but now they know him because he boxed Jake Paul. Now his business will take off.”
“I don’t understand why people are sad for him. He boxed and got paid. It wasn’t even sparring, he had 14 ounce gloves. It wasn’t boxing, it was just good marketing. The only boxing there was in the fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. And there was a young guy who wants to establish himself on the boxing scene. My hat’s off to these brothers Paul and KSI.”
Let us remind you that on the night of November 16, 58-year-old Tyson lost to 27-year-old Paul with not the best performance on his part. However, the fight, which took place in Arlington, lasted the entire eight two-minute rounds. At the end of the match, all the judges gave the victory to Paul – 79:73, 80:72, 79:73. For Jake, this victory was the 11th in his career.
According to media reports, “Iron Mike” was supposed to earn $20 million for the fight with Paul. Jake claimed that his fee for this fight would be double that.
Chisora, who turns 41 in December, plans to fight in Manchester on February 8. His opponent was originally supposed to be the American Jarrell Miller, but he was later replaced by the Swede Otto Wallin.
