Sports director of the Our Deal league Armen Gulyan in a conversation with highlighted the main strengths of the PFL Grand Prix winner in the welterweight division Shamilya Musaeva .
At the PFL tournament in Riyadh, Musaev knocked out another Russian fighter, Magomed Umalatov, in the third round. This victory was the 18th of the welterweight’s career without defeat. For winning the Grand Prix, Musaev won a million dollars. The last Grand Prix tournament in the under 77 kg category was also won by Russian fighter Magomed Magomedkerimov.
— If I understand correctly, you have known Musaev for a long time and thought that he would win the Welterweight Grand Prix?
— Shamil Musaev started with my other teammate Ali Abdulkhalikov in the same section of Wushu Sanda in Kizlyar. And then they trained with us in the Golden Team and now they are showing such serious results. I can say about Shamil that he is not only a good striker, he is also distinguished by good wrestling. In Wushu Sanda, guys wrestle well and only have shortcomings when it comes to fighting on the ground or against the cage. But after working with us with fighters such as Magomed Ismailov and Gadzhi Omargadzhiev, they also improved these skills. In addition, Yaroslav Amosov, Eduard Vartanyan and many other guys who at that time were considered the best fighters in Moscow in their respective weights came to train in the golden team of Mytishchi. A lot of strong fighters came through our basement in Mytishchi, because we had a strong roster. In principle, the guys who trained with Vladimir Otarovich Osiya fought in such a way that many members of the team were compared to a concrete slab. So he’s not easy in wrestling either.
— What did he do well in stand-up early in his career?
— He had an atypical “ground” work, very hard kicks, low kicks. And, like all Wushu Sanda players, he hit the moving backfist very well and caught it well with it. More roundhouse kicks. In general, the peculiarity of Shamil is that he possessed the necessary anger and athletic daring. He always moved forward and was very adamant. And that made him stand out.
— What style of fighter could pose a problem for Musaev?
– The same high-level all-rounder who could work with him bone to bone and at the same time in a non-standard way. Shamil makes a lot of deceptive moves, provocations and moves. As a result, there must be the same fighter… Or a rhythm fighter who will not allow him to breathe, will move forward and will not allow him to realize his advantages, ”Gulyan told .
