Russian Sharabutdin Ataev appears to be a slight favorite in the fight with the Cuban two-time Olympic champion Arlen Lopez said the chairman of the coaching council of the Russian Boxing Federation Eduard Kravtsov .
The fight for the IBA belt in weights up to 80 kg between Lopez and Atayev will headline the IBA Night of Champions tournament, which will take place on December 6 in Dubai.
“This is one of the most anticipated, interesting and competitive fights. Both Arlen Lopez and Sharabutdin are spectacular boxers. In a good sense, the odds in this confrontation are 50 to 50, but I am still a little subjective in this matter, so as a percentage I will give 55 to 45 in favor of Atayev. I give him preference because of his richer experience in running long distances, unlike Lopez. Perhaps age can also have an effect. I repeat, a big fight awaits us,” said Kravtsov, whose remarks to were provided by the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation.
Lopez is a two-time Olympic champion, bronze medalist at the 2024 Games, 2015 world champion and holder of the IBA belt in the weight category up to 80 kg. Ataev is 2023 world champion, 2024 European champion, holder of the WBA Gold light heavyweight belt and IBA champion in the weight category up to 86 kg. In the professional ring, Atayev has seven victories (5 by KO) and Lopez has three (2 by KO).
