The final of the first All-Russian wrestling festival among schoolchildren “Struggle at School” will take place on December 4 in Moscow

On December 4, the best of them will meet in the final at the Severny Modern Pentathlon Center in Moscow. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Sports Department, the Russian Wrestling Federation and the All-Russian School Sports Federation.

More than 700 athletes aged 11-13 in 18 weight categories from 50 regions of Russia will take part in the All-Russian final. The competition will take place according to simplified rules: the boys will compete in freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling in two periods of one and a half minutes each, and the girls will compete in freestyle wrestling.

“An athlete obtains results through colossal work, and not through social advancement. When you know and understand how to give of yourself in every second and every minute of training. My coach always told me that. And when you feel buzz and pleasure from it, it means you are ready to compete. This is what we need to teach our young people, that sport is not just about great achievements, when they practice it every day. They will then become heroes of our country,” notes Irina Rodnina, president of the All-Russian Federation of School Sports, three-time Olympic figure skating champion.

“For the Russian Wrestling Federation, this is the first festival that brings together so many regions and takes place on such a scale. We are not looking for children to win Olympic medals and reach heights in professional sport, the most important thing is to improve the health of the nation. Our task is to bring together the coaches, our mentors, to bring together children and parents to create a community. Our motto is “he who is first in wrestling is first everywhere,” says Olympic freestyle wrestling medalist, world championship medalist, European champion and eight-time champion of Russia Valeria Koblova.

Young wrestlers will benefit from master classes and autograph sessions with famous Soviet and Russian athletes. Mikhail Mamiashvili, Olympic champion, president of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Irina Rodnina, president of the All-Russian Federation of School Sports, three-time Olympic champion, Alexander Karelin, three-time Olympic champion, senator of the Russian Federation, Artur Taymazov, Olympic champion , State Duma deputy Khadzhimurat Gatsalov, Olympic champion and head coach of the men’s team, will tell young athletes about character development and the desire to win.

Festival participants will be able to continue their competitions in cyberspace. Games consoles will be installed in the center. During a photo exhibition in the center’s foyer, young wrestlers will learn about the rich history of the sport.
