The Ukrainian heavyweight became the first boxer in history to hold The Ring belt at two weights, and also defended the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles.
Ukrainian boxer, WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight belt holder Oleksandr Usyk defeated British heavyweight Anthony Joshua in a rematch by decision of the judges. The broadcast of the match on Sunday night, August 21, was shown in 190 countries around the world.
So, the fight at the multifunctional sports complex King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, lasted all 12 rounds.
The fifth three-minute period should be noted, when Joshua used a prohibited technique – he hit the opponent below the belt. However, Usyk soon recovered.
In addition, in the eighth and ninth rounds, the Briton “walked” into the body of the Ukrainian.
Usyk did not stay in debt – in the tenth fight Joshua made a series of blows.
As a result, the Ukrainian boxer defeated the British by the decision of the judges. The board’s opinions were split: 115-113 in favor of the Briton, 115-113 in favor of the Ukrainian and 116-112 in favor of Usyk.
“I dedicate this fight to my State – Ukraine, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to everyone who is now defending my country!” Usyk said after the win.
As you know, on the eve of the match, Usyk showed a record weight in his career – 100.5 kg. At the same time, Joshua is heavier – 110.9 kg. For participation in the rivalry, the two will receive $ 40 million plus a percentage of the sale of paid broadcasts.
The 35-year-old Usyk has had 19 fights in the professional ring, not counting, and won them all (13 by knockout). Joshua, 32, has a total of 26 fights, 24 wins (22 by KO) and two losses.
It can be remembered that the first meeting between Usyk and Joshua in the ring took place in September last year. Then the fight lasted all 12 rounds, after which the judges gave the victory to the Ukrainian boxer.
Usyk arrived at a press conference before the rematch with Joshua in the form of a Cossack
