Joshua: Yesterday I lost two fights – Usyk and my emotions

Anthony acknowledged the victory of the Ukrainian

British Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) expressed respect to the Ukrainian WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion and holder of The Ring magazine belt Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) after the second face-to-face fight.

Joshua stressed that the second defeat from the Ukrainian will make him stronger. At the same time, Anthony also wished Usyk success in his future career.

“I wish Usyk continued success in his quest for greatness. He is a champion,” Joshua tweeted.

“Yesterday I had to mentally go to a dark place to compete for the championship belts. I had two fights – one with Usyk and one with my emotions. And in these battles I lost.

“I’ll be the first to admit it – I let myself down. I acted passionately and emotionally. When I don’t control myself, it ends very badly. I love boxing very much and I will be even stronger.”

On August 20, Joshua lost a split decision to Ukrainian boxer, WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usik in a rematch.

The first fight between Usyk and Joshua took place in the fall of 2021. Then the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by unanimous decision and became the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion for the first time.

Joshua is ready to return to the ring this year with any opponent. Briton promoter Eddie Hearn announced his readiness to arrange a fight for Anthony in November-December, and also expressed confidence in Joshua’s three or four fights in 2023.
