Hearn: Joshua lost to the best boxer in the world

The promoter of the Briton said that Usyk was able to survive after a difficult 9th round

Promoter Eddie Hearn commented on the victory of the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) over ex-world champion Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs).

“I thought the notes would be intimate. I was 115-113. A very close fight. Perhaps Joshua took one round after the 9th. Great performance by Joshua.”

“But how Usyk performed! I thought Joshua would beat him in the 9th round, but the 10th round from Usyk is one of the best I’ve seen. 10th, 11th and 12th rounds – just incredible. Joshua had his best fight ever. In the 9th round, he hurt Alexander, but he was able to survive.

“It was an incredible performance. Usyk is just too good a boxer. He is the first number in the ranking of boxers outside the weight category. Joshua’s reaction after the fight is the reaction of a man who had a lot of pressure, he exploded, was devastated.”

“Joshua was desperate to win the fight. He lost by split decision to the best boxer in the world. Joshua needs to come back, recover, get rid of the frustration, and be happy.”

Immediately after the victory over Joshua Usyk, he challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury to a fight. And Anthony called the Ukrainian “phenomenal talent” and admitted his defeat.

Following the results of all twelve rounds, Usyk defeated Joshua by a split decision: 115-113, 116-112 and 113-115.

Recall that the first fight between Usyk and Joshua took place in the fall of 2021. Then the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by unanimous decision and became the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion for the first time.
