Spartakiad boxing tournament semi-finalist Ludmila Vorontsova (Moscow region) believes that these competitions can be compared with the small Russian championship, and this is a great opportunity to test your strength.
Vorontsova in the quarterfinals in the weight category up to 57 kg won by unanimous decision over Dina Bogdanova (Magadan region).
– The Spartakiad among summer sports is taking place for the first time, so participating is a bit exciting. The Spartakiad can be compared with the small championship of Russia, all the strongest boxers, worthy rivals, gathered here. There will be no passing fights, I managed to win the first fight, and now I am waiting for the second. The country’s women’s championship is fast approaching, and participation in the Spartakiad gives an opportunity to prepare for the main departure in Russia. I know that before the Spartakiad was considered a grand event, it looked like the World Cup. We are not in the USSR now, so we should not expect such competition and compare them to scale. Yet we fight with our compatriots. At the moment, for all athletes, this tournament is a great opportunity to test their strength,” Vorontsova told the official website of the Russian Boxing Federation.
Irina Avtina (Chelyabinsk region), who reached the semifinals, said that she performed in Spartakiad in an unusual weight category.
– I work in Spartakiad in an unusual weight class. I had to go lower, and now I’m boxing at 60 kg. The Spartakiad is one of the most important tournaments of 2022, all the strongest athletes are boxed, and the participants show a very worthy and high level of training. The Spartakiad is a good start for us before the Russian Championship, which I plan to attend. I waited a long time to play in Spartakiad, I only fought on the third day of the tournament, but overall I’m satisfied with my work,” Avtina said.
In the quarterfinals in the category up to 60 kg, Avtina defeated Alina Mustaeva (Republic of Bashkortostan) by unanimous decision.
