Vasily will preliminarily fight with Ortiz on October 29
Promoter Bob Arum announced that he plans to fight for the title of absolute world champion in lightweight between the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) and the winner of the rematch Devin Haney — George Kambosos Jr. at the beginning of 2023.
“Vasily came to the USA with his whole family. He organized a training camp in the Los Angeles area. He will have his first fight on October 29th. I look forward to seeing the winner of Haney and Kambosos meet Lomachenko in the first quarter of next year.”
Earlier it became known that the Ukrainian boxer will return to the ring on October 29. Lomachenko’s fight with Jemaine Ortiz will take place at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
Arum announced his desire to organize a fight between Vasily and the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney. The American will rematch ex-champ George Kambosos Jr on October 16 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Lomachenko fought his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight George Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
